Power Flushing

What is Power Flushing?

Over time, rust and debris build up inside a central heating system and settle as sludge. It collects in radiators, pipes and the boiler, blocking the flow of hot water.

A power flush pumps water through your heating system at high flow to loosen the sludge and carry it out, radiator by radiator. Once the system runs clean, it’s refilled and checked.

Signs your system needs a power flush

Radiators that are cold at the bottom or have cold spots, radiators that are slow to heat up, and a boiler that’s noisier than it used to be are all common signs of sludge.

Not every cold radiator needs a power flush. Sometimes it’s a valve or a balancing issue, and our heating engineers will find the real cause first. A clean system also helps a new boiler work as it should.

“So impressed with this company. Had an issue with my boiler and they came out to look at it next day. Ended up needing a replacement due to age of boiler which was arranged quickly at a reasonable price, and the guys that came to install got on with the job with no fuss. Communication throughout was perfect with email appointment reminders and proper quotes and invoices. They registered the new boiler warranty for me and it was possible to pay by credit card which was appreciated for a big amount. Will definitely be a repeat customer.”

Power Flushing: your questions answered

How do I know if I need a power flush?

Common signs are radiators that are cold at the bottom or have cold spots, radiators that are slow to heat up, a noisy boiler, and dark, dirty water when you bleed a radiator.

What does a power flush do?

It pumps water through your heating system at high flow to loosen sludge and debris and carry it out, so hot water can flow freely through your radiators again.

Will a power flush fix my cold radiators?

If sludge is the cause, it should help a lot. If the problem is something else, such as a valve or balancing issue, we’ll tell you and fix that instead.

Should I get a power flush before a new boiler?

It’s often a good idea. A clean system helps a new boiler work as it should. We’ll check your system and advise when we quote.

How much does a power flush cost?

Every heating system is different, so we quote each job. Call 0161 826 6000, WhatsApp us or use our quote form and tell us how many radiators you have.
